Volkswohl Bund Versicherung: Construction of the head office in Dortmund.

As a service provider with almost 100 years of tradition, Volkswohl Bund Versicherungen is one of the largest broker insurers in Germany. In May 2009, work began on the new head office building in Dortmund. A new administration building for more than 500 employees was to be constructed – sustainably and using state-of-the-art technology by utilising geothermal energy.

Structure and security in new construction.

The scope of Elomech Elektrotechnik GmbH’s contract related to the creation of the network infrastructure, including the computer centre and the entire security technology – consisting of a fire alarm system, BOS radio system, intruder alarm system and access control system. Our services also included media technology for the acoustic and visual design of meeting rooms and hospitality areas as well as the installation of a modern video surveillance and intercom system. After completion in February 2011 and a turnover of 1.5 million euros, the project was far from over for us – because we were commissioned to maintain the fire alarm system and building radio system. Until today.

It's all a question of technology -an overview of the application:

Intercom system

A central unit with lift emergency call stations, intercom stations for firefighters’ lifts, 7 IP video door intercoms and IP video cameras. Visualisation and operation via a control station at reception.

Intrusion alarm system

MB100 burglar alarm control panel in full configuration with 500 lines for monitoring the outer shell and individual doors in the interior.

Access control

Access control system, manufactured by Dorma, with 16 networked access control centres that control access for a total of around 88 card readers and 31 electronic cylinders. A card medium is used to operate access control, time recording and the alarm system.

Fire alarm technology and building radio

The fire alarm system consists of 8 networked control panels with esserbus-Plus technology with 457 detector groups, 794 automatic smoke detectors, 67 push-button detectors, 59 coupling modules and 956 sirens. The extensive control matrix is used to control ventilation systems, fire dampers, lifts, SHEV systems, BOS radio and the extinguishing systems in the data centre. The BOS radio system has a redundant design and ensures radio readiness throughout the entire building in the event of a fire.

Structured cabling

Equipping the data centre with 21 network cabinets and 2 cold aisle containment systems. For the communication technology in the building, 26 network cabinets with approx. 2350 connections were installed on the individual floors. The network cabinets were connected redundantly via fibre optic cables. A total of approx. 120 km of copper cable and 17 km of fibre optic cable were laid.

Antenna system

The media technology and parts of the boardroom are supplied with TV and radio programmes via a satellite dish and digital signal processing.

Media technology

Equipping meeting rooms with high-quality projectors, screens and sound systems. The devices, lighting scenarios and dimming are controlled via EIB gateways and the media control system. Operation is realised using touch panels. The catering areas and the sports area have each been equipped with a high-quality PA system.
